Year 1 RSHE Lesson - General Wellbeing (Statutory Relationships Education)

This Year 1 RSHE wellbeing lesson supports statutory Health Education by helping children understand what wellbeing means and how feelings can change depending on what is happening in their lives. Pupils learn to recognise common emotions such as happy, sad, angry, nervous and excited, and are encouraged to talk about their feelings in a safe and supportive way.

The lesson introduces simple emotional regulation strategies, including recognising whether a problem is “big or small” and matching reactions to the situation. Children explore how activities like playing outside, helping others and staying active can support positive mental health and overall wellbeing.

Safeguarding is embedded throughout, with clear guidance on asking trusted adults for help when feelings feel overwhelming or when big life changes affect emotional wellbeing.
