Year 1 RSHE Lesson – Caring Friendships (Statutory Relationships Education)

This Year 1 RSHE Caring Friendships lesson teaches pupils what it means to be a good friend, including kindness, sharing, listening, honesty and supporting others when they feel upset. Children explore positive friendship behaviours and learn that friendships can sometimes feel tricky and that this is normal.

The lesson covers how to resolve small conflicts, say sorry, and include others so no one feels left out. It also introduces simple emotional regulation strategies such as using kind words, taking deep breaths and asking a trusted adult for help when feelings feel too big.
