Year 4 RSHE Lesson – Drugs, Alcohol, Tobacco & Vaping (Substance Safety)

This Year 4 RSHE Substance Safety lesson introduces pupils to harmful substances including cigarettes, vapes, alcohol, medicines not prescribed to them and illegal drugs. Children learn why age limits exist and how substances affect lungs, heart and brain.

The lesson explains addiction in child-friendly language and develops refusal skills, teaching pupils how to say no confidently, walk away from unsafe situations and report concerns to trusted adults. Children also learn what to do if they find unknown substances in the community.
